2015-431 – Sonar Cam

sonar_cam is an open-source tool for generating 3D audio from point clouds and depth images. It is intended to be used as a reference for blind-assistance technologies which convert depth data into sound.Unlike existing assistive technologies, which either use very sparse representations of the 3D data, try to fit a crude semantic model to the data, or which disregard spatialization entirely, sonar_cam leverages humans’ natural sound-localization ability to differentiate thousands of 3D points in space.
