Age-associated clonal hematopoiesis accelerates cardio-metabolic disease development

The invention enables a test to better understand age-dependent chronic diseases that involve pathological inflammatory responses. The inventors demonstrated that a somatic mutation in hematopoietic cells will promote cardio-metabolic diseases. Because somatic mutations in hematopoietic cells are common in the aging human population, these data provide avenues for new genetic tests to determine the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and they suggest new strategies for the treatment and prevention of cardiometabolic diseases.
