C2012-24 – Process for Reducing Water Soluble Phosphorus in Poultry Litter Using Chitosan

Technology # 12-24 Reduction of Water Soluble Phosphorus in Poultry Litter Chitosan When mixed with poultry litter or other animal manure, will reduce the water extractable phosphorus content and subsequently reduce the runoff losses of phosphorus after these materials have been used on agricultural fields as a fertilizer. A potential organic amendment to poultry litter and other animal, Chitosan represents manures, as opposed to heavy metal salts and other amendments, that not only reduced water extractable phosphorus but also increases the nitrogen content.
