COVID-19 Related – Chemical Based Nitric Oxide Gas Generating Drug Device for the Treatment of Severe Hypoxemia Associated with ARDS in COVID19

One of the Hallmarks of the lung infection associated with Coronavirus is a severe decrease in oxygen concentration in the blood. Early studies have shown that inhaled nitric oxide (iNO), a gas used to treat pulmonary hypertension (PH) may improve oxygenation, by dilating blood vessels in the lungs in areas of normal lung tissue. This may prevent patients from progressing to intubation and mechanical ventilation which is associated with a very high rate of death. Present iNO therapy requires a complex, unwieldy, and extremely expensive delivery system with large and heavy gas tanks, and is available only in the intensive care units and operating rooms of established hospitals.Dr. Enika has developed a new portable device that can more safely and effective produce nitric oxide for treatment of COVID19 induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) . The device utilizes a chemical reaction to produce the nitric oxide on demand. This eliminates the need for bulky and heavy gas cylinders.
