Detection of Ethanol Emission From a Spark Ignition Engine Operating on Gasohols

Applications: -Ethanol emission detection instrument to be used by car manufacturers, research laboratories and emission certification laboratories. -Apply to existing mass spectrometers using software based on this new method. -Ethanol gas detection in refinery and other process plants where ethanol gas is present. Problem: Interference between gas species limits the accuracy of ethanol measurement by existing photo-acoustic sensors in car exhaust gas. Conventional detection using sampling and HPLC requires lengthy analysis time. Christopher Noble crn@mit.edu
